Welcome to eweOS's Google Summer of Code 2025 page! We're thrilled to be participating in GSoC for the first time this year.
We are still in the process of applying, and all of the following will only take effect once the application is approved.
We welcome contributors of all skill levels! Here's how to get started:
- Get Familiar with eweOS: The best way to contribute is to understand our project. Try installing eweOS (you can use a virtual machine).
- Build Your Development Environment: Try building a package under eweOS!
- Join the Community: Introduce yourself in our Matrix/Telegram group or maillist. Ask questions, share your ideas, and get to know other members of the community.
- Explore the Codebase: Our source code is available on GitHub. Browse the code, understand the structure, and identify areas where you might be able to contribute.
- Understand the proposal process: Read Google's Contributor Guide and follow the instructions.
- Proposal Guidelines:
- Clear and Concise: Your proposal should be easy to understand and clearly outline your project goals, deliverables, and timeline.
- Realistic Scope: Choose a project that is achievable within the GSoC timeframe. Break down large tasks into smaller, manageable milestones.
- Demonstrate Understanding: Show that you understand the relevant parts of eweOS and how your project will integrate with the system.
- Personal Background: Briefly describe your relevant skills and experience.
- Timeline: Provide a realistic week by week timeline for your project, including specific tasks and milestones.
Here are some project ideas to get you started. We are also open to your own innovative proposals, so feel free to suggest something new! Please discuss your ideas with the mentors on our communication channels before submitting a proposal.
Note: These are just starting points. We encourage you to explore the codebase and come up with your own ideas that align with eweOS's goals.
